Search Engines like Google will like to give relevant results to their according to their search query, including geographic location based on both the Search Engine that they use for the query e.g. www.google.co.uk and the country you are searching from. The two common criteria search engines use to determine the country where a site is located is the Top Level Domain (TLD) name and the IP address of the site. If your website is for the purpose of online marketing for a specific region, then it would be beneficial for you to have a country specific URL extension.

How Search Engines determine what sites should be returned based on a user’s country specific searches
·     Use the country specific TLD you are targeting.
·     Host the website in that country that you are targeting.
·     Create a great content website focusing on your target market. The focus of your content plays a large part on your listings. If the keywords in your content constantly refer to ‘UK’, ‘London’, and other phrases that you’re looking to show up for, you’ll improve your chances of ranking for them, in regional searches.
·    Where you build your links are also great important factor. Build links from relevant quality sites, which are located in the Country that you are targeting such as UK based links from .co.uk websites, you’re more likely to be classified by search engine as UK based.
·   Set the geographic location in your Google Webmaster Tools account, log into Google Webmaster Tools, and click on the "tools" heading in the sidebar, select "set geographic target" subheading and check the radio button to associate a geographic location with this site. Then choose your country from the list, Street address, City/Town/State and Zip and save.
